During a visit to New York City in 2023 to attend a United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, I experienced an incident that left a lasting impression. After the forum, I was walking from the UN headquarters toward Grand Central Terminal to catch a train back to Jersey City, where I was staying. The city streets were closed due to high-level UN security, and the heavy crowd and traffic made navigation slow and challenging.
On my way, a man approached me, initially offering help to guide me to the train. I politely declined, explaining that I was familiar with the route. However, he persisted, insisting he could show me the fastest way. As I approached the station, he attempted to snatch my mobile phone from my back. Fortunately, I was able to protect it, and seeing others around, he ran away.
This incident reminded me of similar advice from friends living in other major global cities such as London, Paris, and Kuala Lumpur. They had always warned me to keep handbags and valuables out of sight, preferably in the boot of the car, because opportunistic thefts are common even in well-developed neighborhoods. Experiences like these highlight that prosperity and infrastructure alone do not guarantee personal safety.
A Different Reality: Dubai
In contrast, life in Dubai presents a markedly different picture. Even amid regional tensions and occasional alerts, the city’s resilience, governance, and preparedness ensure that daily life continues smoothly, without fear or panic.
Dubai consistently ranks among the safest cities globally, supported by extremely low crime rates, advanced surveillance and smart policing systems, and strong legal enforcement. The United Arab Emirates has, in recent years, been recognized as one of the safest countries in the world—an achievement built on long-term policy planning and strong governance.
Continuity Amid Tension
Despite regional developments, Dubai continues to function without interruption. Authorities have demonstrated proactive risk management, transparent communication, and rapid response capabilities. Occasional alerts are handled efficiently, keeping residents informed while avoiding unnecessary panic.
This calm is reflected in the education sector. At Dubai Knowledge Park, institutions have mirrored the broader stability of the city. Students from diverse international backgrounds initially expressed concern during early stages of regional tension, but confidence quickly returned as safety systems proved effective. Government-led measures—including temporary remote learning and schedule adjustments—were implemented as a precaution, not a reaction to instability.

Confidence in Education and Career Programs
Among the hundreds of students enrolled in Futurise Institute’s “Learn and Earn in Dubai” program, not a single student has requested to cancel their permit or return home due to fear. On the contrary, engagement levels remain high, and students continue to pursue their academic and career goals confidently.
Additionally, we are seeing an increasing number of families approach us to enroll their children in post-Ramadan skill-based training programs, reflecting strong trust in Dubai as a safe and forward-looking environment for young learners.
Dubai: A Global Hub for Education, Careers, and Family Life
Dubai’s appeal as a destination for education, employment, and investment remains strong. The city continues to attract:
- International students seeking quality education and safety
- Professionals looking for stable career opportunities
- Families prioritizing secure living environments
Tourism growth, population expansion, and continuous investment in infrastructure reinforce the confidence global residents have in Dubai.
Home to over 190 nationalities, Dubai has successfully created a model of multicultural coexistence anchored in mutual respect, legal clarity, and institutional strength. Initiatives such as the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence demonstrate a broad commitment to social harmony, ensuring people from all backgrounds can live and thrive together.

Addressing Perception Gaps
In the age of digital media, external narratives sometimes diverge from reality. While regional tensions may influence public perception, the lived experience in Dubai remains one of safety, order, and opportunity. Residents, students, and professionals alike continue to thrive in a secure and stable environment.
Dubai’s success lies not only in its economic and infrastructural achievements but also in its ability to provide security, safety, and stability in a complex global landscape. As cities worldwide grapple with balancing openness and public safety, Dubai offers a compelling example of how both can coexist.
In times of uncertainty, the city stands as a reminder that effective governance, clear vision, and structured systems can create environments where people not only thrive but feel genuinely secure.
